Standing majestically on the hillside of Arakurayama Sengen Park, the Chureito Pagoda offers what is arguably Japan's most famous view. This five-storied pagoda, built as a peace memorial in 1963, requires a climb of 398 stone steps, but the reward is a breathtaking panorama that graces the covers of countless guidebooks. Our curated selection of tours takes the stress out of logistics, transporting you from Tokyo directly to this photographic haven. Whether you are chasing the elusive 'Diamond Fuji' at sunrise, admiring the sea of cherry blossoms in spring, or capturing the fiery koyo autumn leaves, these tours maximize your chances of seeing the mountain clearly. Professional guides monitor weather patterns to optimize viewing times and often combine this stop with other Fuji Five Lakes highlights like Oshino Hakkai and Oishi Park.

Real experiences from real travelers
The climb was tough but the view is exactly like the postcards. Our guide timed it perfectly so we arrived before the tour bus crowds. Absolutely magical.
The tour organization was perfect, but Fuji-san was hiding behind clouds. Still, the pagoda and the shrine were beautiful. The guide took us to a sake brewery instead which was a nice backup.
We went during full bloom. It was very crowded but the tour company handled it well. We had a private car which saved so much time. The bento lunch was delicious.
I read that winter offers the clearest views and it's true. Crystal clear sky. Cold, but the photos are incredible. The 398 steps warmed us up quickly!
I was worried about the stairs, but there is a winding slope path that is easier. It takes longer but is much gentler. The view at the top is breathtaking.
Booked the private car option. Our driver spoke great English and took us to a secret spot near the lake after the Pagoda. Highly recommended for families.
The view was hazy and it was incredibly hot climbing the stairs. I recommend going in cooler months. The tour itself was fine, just bad timing on my part.
The 'Mt Fuji Scenic Tour' allowed enough time to set up shots (no tripods allowed on deck though). We visited 6 spots total. Great value for money.
Everything you need to know for your journey
There are exactly 398 stone steps leading from the shrine at the base to the pagoda at the top. It typically takes 15-20 minutes to climb.
No, Mt. Fuji is notorious for being shy. Visibility is best in winter (Dec-Feb) and early mornings. Summer often has haze or clouds.
Mid-April for cherry blossoms (Sakura) and early November for autumn leaves are the most popular, but also the most crowded. Winter offers the clearest skies.
No, entrance to Arakurayama Sengen Park and the Pagoda is free. However, tours charge for transportation and guiding services.
Yes, there is a paved service road that winds up the mountain. It is a gentler incline but takes about 10-15 minutes longer to walk than the stairs.
Tripods are generally banned on the main observation deck during peak seasons (Sakura/Autumn) to keep crowds moving. Handheld shooting is required.
It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours by bus or car from central Tokyo to reaching the park area.
Yes, there are public restrooms located near the parking lot at the bottom and near the pagoda at the top.
Tours usually run rain or shine. While you won't see Mt. Fuji, the moody atmosphere of the pagoda in the rain can still be beautiful, and guides may substitute other indoor activities.
